2350 VGT repair??
I have a low mileage ISX in the shop that had the turbo stuck at 4% according to Insite. Pulled the actuator off today and the turbo VGT ring or linkage is froze up. I put a crescent wrench on the lever and tried pretty forcefully to get it to move. The actuator seems to work ok. Damn truck only has 20,000 miles on it but it is over 2 years old so I don't think I can warranty it for the guy.

Truck had a mm mandate back in sept. It has never had an egr cooler leak or other issues that normally cause the VGT to gum up and stick.

Have you ever tried to rebuild the VGT part of these turbos? Fleet price on a reman is $5900. Normally we just replace them but this truck only has 20K on it.

replace it and get the warranty. Get it from a stealership. Call and shop around for a better deal.

Mark and remove the turbine housing and you might find out why it's jammed.

1) 2yrs old and only 20k miles, should still be under warranty.

2) Yes you can replace the VG section, but it's not for the faint of heart...when I need one done, I will be going to see a guy and ask him to teach me with mine.

3) What the hell went through it? Wow!

Some kind of debris went through that turbocharger.

Agreed, those three loose pieces in the pic DO NOT belong...pretty sure I know what happened there. Ain't no warranty with that I'm sorry to say.

Looks like you need to buy a new turbo and get yourself a solid blanking plate. Been there & done that.

RE: 2350 VGT repair??
So that is what happened.

Bad parts are everywhere on the internet from people trying to make a quick buck. They only exist for making some a$$hole rich from desperate truckers.

From the hints and pics it looks just like someone installed a cheaply made block-off plate in the exhaust before the egr cooler. Seen that before. Most cheap ones will not hold up long and more expensive ones will not last too.

Ppl install stuff like that and then completely forget about it after. Maybe few months or year or two or maybe even 5 years later they fail and brake something with it. Some good quality is needed.

good thick solid 304stainless. Anything less you are getting into trouble. This is the only thing I see that holds up.

gotta make sure press can't build in any dead pipes that may have been block at both ends too. heat expansion in dead pipes can break a lot of things. Best to remove gaskets in dead pipe channel.
