The sad thing is most of the owner operators we got completely buy into this line of thinking "works for the company, must work for me" then they wonder why after 4 years their truck is having so many problems and has become so unreliable that it's time to head back to the dealer for another new one. These aren't new O/O either, been at it 20+years most of them. They don't got shi#t to show for it and many are in debt to the company, which is really sad cause they were making big bucks on percentage for most of their career.

I equate that kind of thinking to someone trying to get from A to B as fast as they can, -- pushing their truck as hard as it will go along the muddy road. They are trying with all their might to get somewhere, spinning tires and not getting very far, frustrated as all hell, driving all day in that mud, it holding them back and slowing them down. ---- All while getting mad and ignoring everyone around them trying to help them. They simply refuse to look around and see that the road they are driving on is in fact the ditch along side the freeway.

Bazdan you reminded of this so called O/O my 1st company had. He was the "SUPER trucker" of super truckers.

I ran into this moron one day while loading and he was whining and dripping about only getting about $100 on his pay statement a couple of days previous. It didn't take long to get the rest of the story. Back in the day my company's main fuel supplier in western Canada was Shell. I remember the pay period before this one there was a note in the pay packet from the payroll lady saying that Shell's computer had gone down just as they were getting ready to send out the bills so there would be no fuel deduction for that 2 week period, all the fuel for the month would be deducted next pay period. Now to me I think "$2500 now or $5000 in 2 weeks not a big deal"

Mr Super trucker didn't bother reading the note, all he saw was his cheque was $3-4000 bigger than he was expecting so we went out and bought a big screen TV with a bunch of other crap he couldn't afford. Thinking for the future, this guy could barely think for the present.

This is one that had likely never been changed. Found it on a truck that had 600k miles on it.

What you think the rest of the engine looked like eh? --- and to think this guy was being picky about what kind of oil he was using, asking all kinds of questions about making his engine last longer... lol

Guess he never thought about making sure his coolant system was in good shape too.

The point of all this is --- CHANGE YOUR COOLANT FILTER EVERY 50,000 MILES OR SO!


I haven't had a problem with that interval. If your getting clogging at 20,000 miles, there is something wrong. Likely your using the wrong coolant filter. ISX engines need a WF2127 --- NOT a WF2126. There is a BIG DIFFERENCE, because the 2126 is full of dried SCA additive when you put it on and if you keep using them, they will gum up your system and the coolant filter will keep getting clogged up.

I recommend people use the WF2127 filters ONLY! and if their coolant needs SCA or nitrates,.. TEST YOUR COOLANT YOURSELF WITH TEST STRIPS REGULARLY ADD IT YOURSELF!

--- And if you use RED COOLANT --- GUESS WHAT -- YOU DON'T NEED SCA ADDITIVES AT ALL! --- The WF2127 filter IS THE ONLY FILTER you should be running to avoid gumming up the system.

Do you think those coolant filters are effective enough to not worry about adding tap water while out on the road? Distilled or Deionized is best, but sometimes only water from the rest area faucet is available.

Adding water to an otherwise healthy cooling system is a stop gap measure to get you off the side of the roads. I would say keep a spare of 2 of the type of coolant you use instead and if you have to add more than a gallon or so of water only,,... flush the system and replace the coolant at your next convenience to make it right again.

These things ARE NOT AUTOMOBILES!-- They are WET LINER ENGINES that are very prone to liner wall cavitation and those coolant addatives and the coolant health overall is VERY VERY IMPORTANT!
