RE: WARMER TEMPS - Hammerhead - 07-10-2016 No shi#t, this was how the thermostat and stat seal came out of my housing... [attachment=1674] (I bent the one ring getting a screwdriver behind it to remove it) RE: WARMER TEMPS - in2trux - 07-10-2016 I didn't know there where so many parts to a thermostat! Lolz RE: WARMER TEMPS - scottydogtruck - 07-11-2016 This is what happens when you let some shop, other than DIY, replace your thermostat...... I let the Petro in Effingham, IL replace the thermostat in my Pete, because I didn't have the place or the time to do it, and it would've been a while before I could do it at the house. I should've been wise and not let them finish after the ASE-certified wrench said "I've never done a thermostat on a Cummins, but I have done lots on Cats and Detroits".....I had to tell him on how to remove the housing from the engine.....but things from there went south in a hurry... The wrench used a pry-bar to try and free the internal seal, but instead of prying up from the bottom, he decided to use a BFH (big-freaking-hammer) to bang DOWN on the seal to try and pop it out, and in turn, after destroying the seal, broke the seal lip on the inside of the housing, destroying the housing... Now I sit here inside the bay waiting for the morning guys to get here and find a replacement housing from the local Pete shop here, or maybe the Freightshaker or Cornbinder shops....and there was talk of finding a wrecking yard in the area to get the now, much needed housing. What a weekend...... RE: WARMER TEMPS - Hammerhead - 07-11-2016 I'm sorry to hear that...and I feel your pain! About three years ago the seal let go in my fan hub in NC. None of the dealers said they could look at it for almost a week, so I (insert brain fart here) figured "it's just a fan hub, the T/A said they could do it that evening..." Well my ahem wrench accidentally dropped one of the flat washers down inside the shroud and didn't know it. Well the next morning I pull out of the T/A around the 32mm on I40 and part way up the hill my fan engages, woosh from the air, poof from the coolant blasting all over the place. I limp her to the next exit at the top of the hill and call the T/A and tell them to bring coolant, lots I'm leaking it fast. They said, "we'll send a tow truck" and I told them "no, you'll need two if you do that. A wrecker to get me, and a second power unit to tow this OS wagon and all new permits, just send the road service truck with about 10 gallons" Of course, the closest rad for this T800 Wide Hood was in Vegas...by the time we got a rad and got me put back together I could have waited for the dealer that was talking 5-6 days before they could get me in. I was there for 5 1/2 days! I'm sorry, I feel your pain. RE: WARMER TEMPS - overshot - 07-16-2016 OH MY. That's some crappy luck |
