Peterbilt 2015 cm2350 list of issues - Trey7981 - 12-25-2024

I do heavy haul and my truck seems to have lost power. No codes active I have a live data scanner not insite. Just did the egr tune up minus pulling the cooler off. Replaced imap, both exhaust pressure sensors, ambient air pressure sensor, and egr delta p. Empty with just my trailer 53k lbs gross I’m having to downshift to 7H on small hills. Loaded at 130k pounds it 20-25mph and a steady 38psi boost on small hills. Get to 65mph is almost impossible loaded. Factory everything 550/2050 tune. Might be my imagination but seems my engine fan comes on a lot also. A/c’s are off and water at 180 oil at 202 and the fan keeps cycling. Aftertreatment is reading .68psi back pressure with a .04 differential. Filters cleaned 2 months ago “just for reg maintained”. I pulled apart the exhaust system one section at a time to see if any blockage issue exists. Cummins tested my fuel pump said it was performing well. No oil consumption. I do lose a little coolant but there has always been a small leak at the coolant filer seal and the leak amount is about 2 gallons a year. 18speed 4.11gears. Any perspective would help thanks in advance

You need to get the cummins insite program so you can do a proper injector leakdown test.

Pressurize the entire engine by loosening all the valve rockers, then blocking off both sides of the turbo and putting 35 psi of shop air in through the turbo inlet temp sensor. A lot of issues can be found this way.

You also need the c a l t e r m program so you can see what has control of the fueling.

Does it feel low on power even if the fan isn't on? Another thing insite will show you is if the a/c system is commanding the fan on due to a bad switch.

Your coolant and oil temp both seem a little low for 130k pounds gross. The ECM might be holding back fuel because it's in a silent derate. Again you'll need c a l t e r m to see if that's happening.

If you fill your fuel tank up but not your def at the same time you'll trigger a silent derate as well.

Thanks I’ll get my shop to do a leak down and pressure test. The temps are at empty or flat ground , pulling they definitely go up to 210ish on water and 230ish on oil. What is calterm is it part of insite? Where’s the place to get onsite that’s not $5000 a year? And yes the power is about the same fan on or off. How do pressurize the engine. Do I somehow cap. Crankcase vent and oil fill and dip stick?

Insite 8.7 and the inline adapter can be had pretty inexpensive. Here's a link I grabbed off ebay, this seller has 100% feedback.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/405204575288?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=h6qdquwhs46&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=LhIBm7NkRli&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

C a l t e r m is a completely different program than insite and can be found online if you look around a bit.

To pressurize the engine you just need to block off both sides of the turbo not the oil fill or Dipstick. By loosening all the rockers you'll be pressurizing the cylinder's with all the valves shut so you'll easily see if there's a valve problem or a leak in the EGR circuit, boost leak/leaks etc.

New issue, after replacing the egr pressure sensor now I have a code spn5019 fm2 “3138” egr recirculation outlet pressure data erratic, intermittent or incorrect. Took apart the egr mass flow assemble and cleaned it still coded. Tried new delta p and egr pressure sensor coded again checked wiring and voltage can’t find an issue there. Read on quick serve to idle truck 5 min then cycle key to validate. Code and derate went inactive. Test drove got another code for dpf delta p. Replaced sensors and checked pickup tubes were cleared. Cleared codes in system test drove coded again spn5019 fm2. Cleared code in system another test drive coded dpf delta p again cleared then coded spn5019 fm2 again. 3sets of sensors 2 new and original are all doing the same code. Any ideas I did pull the egr this time sooty but dry soot was able to blow a lot out with an air gun truck is making a lot of soot judging by looking at the new imap. Dpf differential pressure is .04

You need to post the actual codes that Insite shows so we know what we're looking at here is legit.

Sorry my INSITE you sent me to eBay for won’t be here till 1/3-1/7. But I’m trying to get fixed asap as I’m 1k miles from home the quickserve code is 3138. I did that process and searched 3138 on here. Rawze said to pull the egr and valve for clogs got nothing posted pic of the valve. Is there anything else I should check before I put the side of the motet back together? Valve has 515k HH miles on it. Is it possible it is fixed and these codes are stuck in the ecm? Is that a thing.

RE: Peterbilt 2015 cm2350 list of issues - tree98 - 12-27-2024

No the codes won't get "stuck" like that. There's quite a few things it could be. The engine is just telling you that the egr commanded pressure isn't correct.could be a leak in the egr circuit, a blockage in the egr circuit, a problem with the turbo, faulty sensor, etc. It's gonna be hard to troubleshoot in a parking lot.

Also i would say that valve is at the end of it's life with over 500k on it.

Update: at the dealership and they can’t find any issue that’s causing fault code. They are thinking that the dpf assembly is leaking from when I had it cleaned and the reassembly didn’t line up just right, and That’s now triggering codes since all the new sensors are reading. im doubtful as I’ve been all over the after treatment and don’t see any exhaust gas leak marks.
