RE: New EPA rules In Germany they check on mandatory inspection whether the Calibration verification number matches the software that is supposed to be on the car and whether there is modifications done to software. If there is then the car / truck will not get inspection passed. RE: New EPA rules The Germans(would prefer the other not so nice word) have been strict on car modifications to the point it looks at them wrong or isn't certified to their standards, they will fail the TUV inspection either on renewal or roadside. Edit: incorrectly said MOT which is British, not German TUV | |||

RE: New EPA rules It's comical watching reading some of the YT comments. If anyone assumed all these 'green' mandates were put in place to save the world, and not line pockets.... I think they're delusional. As with many bright ideas, maybe they start with good intentions, but quickly get amended once the first sign of a massive revenue and new penalty taxes are involved....aka GREED! Think of what it takes for just DEF (which is a shitty chemical to begin with)... More trucks on the highway burning fuel to transport the product (which all of those trucks also have to use as well), massive amounts of plastic jugs/barrels and/or cardboard, pointless addition to landfills, enormous amounts of fuel needed to get just that product from manufacture to distributor, etc etc..... It keeps going. That is just for the damn DEF!... Then you can get into the rest of the emissions down the line which create loads of 'business/career ending' issues for many, as well as all the fuel mileage decreases (and penalties for an improper working system). The list goes on and on. You could easily write an entire volume dedicated to the effects of these 'green' regulations. As someone of a sound mind, I'd have to imagine the negative faarrrrrr outweighs the positive. However, looking at it from a revenue standpoint, I can see why so many have fought to keep these BS mandates intact and growing year after year... This is only a minuscule blip of info on an enormous impact these regulations have created. | |||

RE: New EPA rules I saw nothing in the EPA announcements indicating diesel emissions standards are somehow revoked. They are "reconsidering" a number of items, including the planned FUTURE 2027 standards that sounded quite restrictive, and something about 2022 rules. With the wide ranging scope of things under consideration, there is a possibility that this could lead to significantly gutting the standards, but none of that has happened as of now. Seems the youtubers are jumping the gun and hyping this news for views. Personally I hope they end up gutting diesel emissions tyranny at scale, at the very least do it for off highway (ag and construction). No good reason new tractors couldn't go back to Tier 2 or even 3, could significantly lower initial purchase price and maintenance costs. My two cents anyway. | |||

RE: New EPA rules I haven't followed this closely as most "sources" are just random social media personalities. Very few reputable primary sources. Like jmartin said. Seems mostly to be focused on relaxing/repealing upcoming/future regulations/requirements. Haven't seen any primary sources talk about long existing regs such as those that relate to EGR/DPF/SCR requirements that we already deal with. On the one hand I'd like to at least see them repeal laws/regs/rules/penalties for emissions tampering and such, but on the other hand those same have helped to get a lot of the junk/harmful parts and services off the market (or at least made the junk harder to get). I like having cleaner emissions, but I don't like the current "solutions" to the problem. In any case the recent trend of government pushing currently near impossible (or at least highly impractical) emissions requirements needs to stop. I'm all for the proposed bill that would remove the strong emissions requirements while also providing an incentive for OEM's to develop newer tech without the fear of insane penalties. The EPA, in connection with CARB, has been pushing too hard, too fast and has been given way too much power. And CARB's ability to interfere with interstate commerce needs to be stopped otherwise what congress actually does do would be pointless.
