RE: ECM Program Review (assuming someone lives in a foriegn country where that stuff is ok to do)... the steps are... * ensure that all the hardware changes needed are 100% correct. (all exhaust components taken apart for inspection, ensured are 100% open/hollow to the metal, free flowing as can be achieved, proper block-plate on egr, etc.). ========= hardware changes... ** ALL of the exhaust cans need to be opened up and made 100% hollowed out to the bare metal. This includes doing the SCR element too .. cutting it open and welding it back shut when done. - that, or straight piping the exhaust. It needs to be as free-flowing as absolutely possible and noting left that can trap or reflect any heat. ** Block plates that are significantly thick and made or 304-stainless steel at the junction where the exhaust manifold meets the EGr cooler.. and another one at the intake where the EGr pipe meets the intake manifold. - THEY NEED TO BE VERY THICK!... THERE IS MORE THAN 90+ PSI ON THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD WHEN THE ENIGNE IS MAKING FULL BOOST PRESSURE ON IT!. ANY CRAPPY QUALITY METAL OR SOMETHING NOT THICK ENOUGH -- will destroy the engine and/or turbo MAYBE AFTER A FEW YEARS, MAYBE EVEN LESS. IT IS NOTHING TO PLAY AROUND WITH. ** REMOVING, BYPASSING, or using a maintenance-free crank case filter. This is absolutely necessary, as the circuit will no longer be used, and sensor disabled. -- ANY pressure buildup in the crank case on the ISX results in damage to the turbocharger.. AND ALSO wipes out over-head cams. There should NEVER BE any ability for the engine to build crank case fumes up. the filter simply has to go!. ** Removal of any intake throttle valve. Many of the CM2250's and most of the newer CM2350's and X15's etc.. have throttle devices on the intake manifold to help draw EGR gas in. The butterfly for it needs to be removed or there will be mysterious power losses. ** PERFORM A PROPER OVERHEAD VALVE ADJUSTMENT!. ... replace the IMAP sensor if it is old, replace the Exhaust Back-pressure sensor if it is old. Do CAC leak tests. Make sure everything on the engine is running in tip top shape. ** DO AN INJECTOR LEAK TEST .. and fix anything wrong with the engine. Any OEM stealse$shi#t for that model truck with a bench harness can do this for a few hundred bucks. Remove the ECM from the truck, take it to stealers$it, and have it done. Driving the whole truck to them is not an option, as you will likely not be able to simply drive it away if it derates. * AFTER it gets flashed back 100% stock programming ... it needs 10+ minutes of run-time (key-on or idling) on the clean factory program so that the ecm memory gets re-established. THIS HAS TO BE DONE even if there are codes for the exhaust, etc. stuff not working. * After that 10 minutes of run time, that clean factory Program can now be copied out of the ECM. This can be done using CT software (insite will not pull the program out ). This means that (after putting the ecm back onto the engine) after a re-flash, and turning the key-switch in the dash on and waiting for 10 minutes before doing anything else. * Copy out, the clean OEM factory file after it has had at least 10 minutes of key-on time, using the Calt#erm software. * E-mailed the copied clean factory file with 10+ minutes of run time on it off to the appropriate person, so that it can be set/done up properly. * The corrected (ehemm fixed ...) program simply copied back in to the ECM using the CT software. * clearing all faults (using Insite softare) a couple times in a row to get rid of any codes that may have popped up when it was run for that 10 minutes. * Ensuring the boost is not excessive, testing the truck as necessary, etc. -= and in your case ... praying like h#ell that the bad program it had in it has not begun to set in any severe damage yet.
