My guess is it got a bit of moisture in the top sitting for that long and rusted it. Certainly wouldnt hurt to get a oil analisys when u change the oil though.

its called lot rot. Many engines get it up there, 2250's especially for some reason...

Condensation likes to build up around the front cylinders. It could be from lot rott, or from moisture buildup at one point due to various reasons.

If you suspect coolant intrusion, pull your crank case filter and look at the inside of the housing. Here is one that had coolant intrusion problems. Even RED coolant still makes for a green-ish buildup in the back of the housing.

WATERLOO, if you're smoking at startup id recommend checking out them injectors if you havent already. Ur idle smooth? I found one of mine was jacked up and leaking like a faucet after doing mm and pulling the boost out at idle. Went from 6.5-7mpg empty to 10. De-mandates really expose what condition the engine is really in.

No smoking at startup, just an occasional puff between shifts... All good. Thanks!

Well, I have a weed burner, so I would say it would be a tad bit louder than a stack. Honestly it is not that loud, I cannot hear it in the cab and no one has ever said anything about it being obnoxiously loud. I'm happy with it.
