RE: RIP CM2250, 2013, 800,000km 20,000 hrs So update, I took it to a mechanic and provided very specific instructions on what to look for. We ran through it together. The culprit at the moment is actually a broken lock on the pin on the 14 pin connector and a slightly loose connection. So 20 dollars of parts, and some goodwill for the mechanic, and it might've just been a loose 14 pin connector providing all of these codes I hope. (the codes ranged from DEF controller, NOX sensor update rate, DEF Heater lines, WIF Sensor, SCR operator inducement, basically the whole shebang). Voltage supply from ecm to pins was verified to be good, and a bit of looking for shorts didn't return anything. Will run it for the next few days and update the group here. Just a testament to how many codes these things will throw for some of these minor items. Previously a loose air line on the purge valve actuator resulted in around 10-15 codes. And now, one 14 pin connector with 6 wires coming to it, threw 18 codes. Thanks for the support on this thus far, will update the group on results as it unfolds. | |||

RE: RIP CM2250, 2013, 800,000km 20,000 hrs This is a perfect example of why an inline reader, insite and a quickserve account are pretty much mandatory for working on these engines. I didn't look up these particular codes, but from my experience each one of them should have included some troubleshooting step(s) that directed the mechanic to test the wiring from sensors all the way back to the ECM. Of course, most shops jump ahead to worst case part replacement. Either due to laziness or bad assumptions of where the problem is located or just complete ignorance. But a new fuel pump was installed during this build, and now, one year and 2 months later, check out the video below of the head spewing out diesel. I'm out of town right now and going back to see this, but i've ordered a head from Cummins and gasket. I've seen information about small leak happening there, but this was just a lot. No codes came up on the truck, but I noticed fuel economy was poor last month, and was going to check in on it. dropped from 1.7km/L to about 1.55km/L. https://imgur.com/tBrHswZ My thought is I should be good replacing just the head, i'll inspect the cam and rollers when it's off. But pretty shocked at the condition after 1 year and 2 months. Yep, replace the head and inspect the internals while it's off. The new head will come with barrel/plunger assemblies pre-installed. You'll also need the head gasket. I just did this within the last year or so because of the same issue. There's no repairing, only replacement unfortunately. Judging off that video, it's been leaking for quite awhile. It did have the dreaded low rail pressure code, just didn't come up on my telematics, looked at it today now for previously logged codes. Fuel economy was down for the last month, but it wasn't leaking until about 10-15 hours ago. It may have been dribbling before, but I'll be honest I didn't check. RE: RIP CM2250, 2013, 800,000km 20,000 hrs Driver complained of low power again yesterday, this is about 40 hours after fuel pump head install. Checked it out last night, and did the leakage test, wouldn't build over 17,000 PSI when commanded up to 28000. Opened the hood, looks like it's leaking again from the exact same f****ng spot as last time. Unlucky with the reman head? Or is something else causing this? | |||

Haven't had an issue for 20 odd years with contamination, we're local and these are all major pumps. | |||

Just my luck, 1 year and 2 month old new fuel pump, head says bye. 40 hours later, reman head from cummins, says good bye too. Still can't get a new one, next one will be reman too... have to wait 2 days for it to be shipped from the states. Just thought i'd let everyone know so you stay on your toes. | |||
