its got 440k on it the block should be cut but that is not a very accurate way to measure liner height... gasket material still on the block using a piece of metal not known to be perfectly flat that has hammer marks in the middle liners not clamped down don't get me wrong they are likely to low your measuring to .000 not whole inches dial indicators are cheap get one

This right here.. I've got a friend right now wishing he would have ran on a shop when I told him to I tried to get him to let me build the engine for him. He didn't like the quote for the parts. he took it to a shop locally that quoted him $17,000 all in with a one-year warranty. It threw a rod through the side of the block 72 mi out of the shop. They refused to warranty it. He paid them a second time nearly twice as much money. They reused the head from the block that threw the rod and it's currently sitting in the shop again with a dropped valve seat on cylinder number three along with the score of other problems that they caused

Somehow there's never enough time or money to do it right, but there's always enough time and money to do it 2 or 3 times.

They aren’t the ones setting the liner protrusion or cutting the counterbore it’s being done by someone else. I suppose they were just measuring to get a rough idea how low they’ve gotten.

You can make excuses for them.. but I completely agree with the others there... Whoever tried to measure it like that should not be anywhere near an ISX,... its too precise of an engine for someone who is not trained to properly measure a critical height like a complete redneck fool!.

Not only that .. but you cannot check properly,.. if the liners have been danging/fretting in the block by measuring the height of the liners alone.

To check for fretting without removing the liners ... the head is off it, so - CLEAN UP THE BOTTOM OF THE DAM%MN HEAD AND USE A precision straight edge/ RAZOR-BLADE, etc. AND LIGHT SOURCE TO SEE IF THERE IS FRETTING ON THE BOTTOM OF THE HEAD!!!

I understand that but at this point my hands are tied. I feel okay with it considering they are having a trained tech from a dealership come in and set everything on Monday where I want it set. I was made aware from the get go they don’t do the counterboring themselves or setting liner protrusion, probably because they don’t have the tools in house, which is clear. I’ll ask them Monday about the fretting on the head.

I would not trust a stealers$it mechanic to hold a wrench nonetheless work on the insides of one of these engines ...

A few years back I bought a short block from cummins brand new bock. was very nice. However, I notice writing on the top what looking like liner height info. It was all over the place from .010 with .013 next to it. I was blown away when we pulled the liners down it was correct. It also was signed off by 3 inspectors. I called the dealer they put me with someone at cummins and I was ask why would I check that to know... I was like well for one I have to stand behind this. He advised they cold ship me another but wuold take a few weeks. At this point I was like what keeps me from getting another one in the same shape. So I reached out to Rawze and hes like lets pull it down and redo it our self. Every since then I just build up my own blocks when I have one needing one. Crazy the quality that passed 3 others and was ok knowing these engines suffer bad from drop liners....
