RE: Upgrading my Prostars headlights
I did mine as well. And if you do it right hid blows led out of the water especially in inclement weather. I run projectors from an Acura TL. With Phillips bulbs and 55w ballasts.
As far as legality goes. Retrofits are illegal. Because as soon as you modify the housing in any way it's no longer approved. However if you do the retrofit right you will never get bothered. I had a level one last week with mine and the inspector never said anything.

4 x 6 jw speaker low beam pictured.

Got a level 2 the other day at noon.
The dot said " damn you have some bright high beams"
Also jw speaker high beams.

Xenondepot.com has awesome pricing on hid and led lights. If you check the site once in a while they do 20% off and free shipping. By far the cheapest place to buy jw speaker lights.

I got rid of the lower light on my truck and would like to do hid in the bumper. That way ive got leds and hid combined.

(09-09-2016 )Brock Wrote:  The kit is not dot approved. Dot approval is not on a single component of the headlight assembly but instead a assembly as a whole. I went through a full inspection with mine and he asked about it, but as I said. My factory high beam comes on at the same time the projector shield opens up.

I told him all I did was unbolt a non hid projector and install a hid projector, no modifications were made and the projector I used was out of a dot approved assembly. I told him it's better I do that then install plug and play h11 kits and melt my housings while blinding others, he agreed.

The owner of deepspace lighting's name is david and he is positive his kits are 100% legal and is willing to tell you how or why.

I personally don't think they are but was able to bullshit my way through a inspection.

Brock, when you modified your light assemblies what did you use to glue the lenses back in place?

RE: Upgrading my Prostars headlights
I'm in the process of upgrading my Pete 389 headlights... For anyone that has one I dunno about you but find the stock halogen projector pretty awful. HIDplanet has a lot of info on doing these types of conversions... This kind of equipment should be factory IMO considering the nature of the work. For anyone not brave enough to disassemble a $500+ headlight I stumbled upon a company out of Las Vegas making DOT approved headlights for class 8 trucks. http://deepspacelighting.com he has kits with instructions for a retro fit as well as drop in lenses. I'll be trying out one of his kits in the coming months as I have my old lights at home from a couple years ago that I can take my time with. So far they are disassembled and lenses polished, good to see I'm not the only one going this route. I will update on what I think of the kit if you guys are interested!
