Checking a bull gear and/or the conditions of it bearings on an S60 is kinda like checking valve recession on an ISX. It is a known weakness, and failure to periodically inspect may cost you your engine...it drives the camshaft. If a cam stops turning before the crankshaft stops turning, it's never pretty.
