The higher the better. Just the normal heavy, those 40,000 to 45,000 lb loads, is normally cheap. I'm looking at freight daily, from several carriers, 9 times out of 10 the heavier the load the cheaper the rate in the general freight commodity market. Me, I try to stay around 20,000 lbs, or under, and the rates are generally better than the same heavy freight from the same point A to point B locations. HazMat too, not enough price differential to even consider hauling it, not worth the hassle or insurance costs. I think it has quite a bit to do with the fact that the majority of folks in this business have no clue about the business. From the guys in sales to the dispatchers, and of course the drivers and owner operators. Not that I am the wizard of smarts, but I don't believe you need to be one to agree with my last statement. If I were "smart", I would go find something else to do. | |||
