Just older. The older an engine is the less parts support there is for it. Cummins parts are still available for 2250's don't misunderstand, im just saying as those engines get older and older the dealers don't have as much in stock as they do for the newer ones. I guess it really just depends on what your goals are? If you can tolerate down time and its not really a problem to wait to get a part sometimes, maybe you don't really use the truck every day anyway?? If that's the case then get anything 871 or newer.

Your truck melted into the ground so obviously your looking to replace the whole rig not just an engine. Don't forget...... there's a lot more to a truck than just the engine. If your buying a 20+ year old truck, I don't care if it's got a cummins in it that was built by Jesus Christ himself, your still gonna have problems with that truck. Again it comes down to what you need to do with this truck. If it works every day and makes your living for you, then you need to get on the phone with peterbilt sales and see what they got available on the shiney new lot.

You guys all know, I'll argue with anyone that buying new is better, cheaper (long run), easier, sometimes faster depending on what you need than messing around with old junk. Unless of course your just hauling soybeans with it 4 weeks a year.
