If you go a full size tractor truck you're going to need a class A CDL to operate it. Also you'll have to probably jump over some hurdles to change the registered weight on the truck. that will be all according to what state you live in and their registration laws. In Pennsylvania you have to take it to a certified mechanic and have them downgrade it to closer to the weight you will be pulling with it. I've seen plenty of guys take single axle trucks and do exactly what you want to do. A lot of private people put not for hire on the side of their rigs to pull their horse trailers from farm to farm or show to show. But you have to be sure you jump through the right paperwork and legal hoops or you will get fined for not having everything properly registered.
