ISX15 CM2250 fuel pump timeframe?

Have you ever updated the ceramic plungers to steel?
If you haven't, STOP DRIVING NOW!!!
Hopefully one hasn't pulverized and has now contaminated your oil with ceramic dust.
If you have and that problem is taken care of, it shouldn't be too hard to locate a newer 2 cylinder version from a wrecking yard, then have it rebuilt and put on so you at least have the updated version that parts are available for. You will need to change some fuel lines as well when updating.

I have one that looks similar ... and that was my thought that as soon as pump started to fail it would stop running but apparantly not. Right now I am removing pan and inspecting mains (just hit copper but I think I can clean them up) and trying to see camshaft lobes but have not made it that far yet.

You have some old style pump. Broken plunger shavings could already damage your engine..and possibly go into oil galleries to main bearings.
Newer pump is two barrels and head has only 4 bolts. I actually did update my pump at 440,000miles on my cm2350. I put video on youtube how to replace internal parts. They are much cheapier than whole pump. I spent about $120 on barrel and plunger assembly kit and $300 on new design tappets. Here is link

Sad thing though, those new pumps still fail. You need to still rebuild every 300,000 to 400,000 miles. And no telling when they will fail, it may be much sooner. Not good.

It's old 3 barrel pump converted into 2 barrel. Pump will work just fine with steel plungers and updated tappets.

Exactly what causes them to fail? I can see the ceramic ones failing but steel also??
