I cut the condenser off and am mounting it behind the cab with a 12v cooling fan powered off a 120 >12v transformer. Just gotta find time to get the copper tubing ran and service valves sweated in. Had planned on flare fitting but the od is a hair bigger than 1/4. Bought a champion 3100 electric-remote start to run it and keep the batteries warm. Gonna install that in the nose of the hopper to cut down on noise.(07-03-2017 )smorgan87 Wrote: My 871 idles around .5 gallon/hr. Im in the process of modifying a window unit to sit under the bunk so i can have shore power a/c or generator a/c I have the same generator. I absolutely love it. I cut off the terminal ends to the generator and used a 50 amp connector to use the truck batteries instead of using the small 20 amp hour one that came with the generator.

RE: @m*m^2 idling less than 1 gallon per hour None what so ever. Barely hear it over the idling truck next to me. 8.5 hours on 1.6 gallons of gas. I'm still working on a better cover/box for it. For now it's locked to the frame with a cable and 2 ratchet straps and covered with a vinyl generator cover.

RE: @m*m^2 idling less than 1 gallon per hour Thats awesome! Im ready to get mine done. Makes me cry burning this much diesel and thinking about the wear on a 700k mile engine.

RE: @m*m^2 idling less than 1 gallon per hour I ordered the 12000 btu a/c from highseer online. Make sure you get the 115v and not the 220v version. The upside is I carry an extension cord and can use shore power when i'm at one of our terminals. The generator i got thru amazon. Make sure you register you unit with champion in case you need to get parts or service. The main issue from all reviews is that they test run them and a little gas get stuck and gums up the carb from sitting in the box waiting to be put into service. They will just send you a new carb (from what i've read). I had a starter solenoid go out and 1 phone call and they mailed me a new one no questions asked. Also get an inductive hour meter since the service interval is 100 hours and you should follow as close as possible. It's only .6 quarts.

I like my engine too much to abuse it that way though. run the timing way out there in the idle regions - it will cut it immensely. watch the live fuel flow and start tweaking until it settles at its lowest point.
