I have been approved to get a truck and I have been looking at buying one from Schneider, can anyone give me any insight on what to look for and if a Schneider truck is a sound investment? Any thoughts will help and be much appreciated?

how about figuring out what is going to be the most profitable for the type of freight and operations you intend to use a truck for first. this is far more important.

Thanks Rawze for replying! I plan to put it on with the company I’m running for now which is Super Service. We haul dry van general freight, but I will definitely read the information that was given to help me. Would it be possible I could pay you to come with me to take a look at the truck? I’m not sure if you’re close to the Atlanta area, but was watching one of your videos and you stated you were in GA. If that is something you would be able to do it would be a great! I know year's ago schneider utilized recycled oil for their engines

I can only imagine what the internals of these motors look like... What was the oil change, service schedule on these trucks? Isn't it out 30-50,000 miles at Schneider? And what do you do when you get a code? Take it to the dealer to diagnose and fix?

We ran the DD13's up in ND, and I would not know where two start on that motor in regards to repairing. A jumble of wires and stuff, never did see the motor under it all... And one of the reasons they rarely ran. I would think twice about what you are going to purchase. A Cummins, I can keep running, because the diagnostic tools are readily available. When these motors start hitting 400,000 miles, this is when the fun begins.

The repairs on these motors, and I don't care who makes them, if you do not have a solid understanding of what the actual issue is, these shops and dealers will rake you over the coals. Do you have access to diagnostic equipment to get into the ECM? And when the DPF/SCR system starts failing, and the bills start hitting, and always at the wrong moment, what are you going to do? My DPF cracked, $7,300 to replace. I had already been eaten alive financially at a few other shops with other EGR/DPF issues that were never fixed properly... I had no other choice to delete, even the Cummins shop recommended doing just that, and thank God I had just found Rawze and his @m*m^2.

Think long and hard about this... I have no clue what an SCR box costs or DPF/DOC filters for a Detroit, but I bet they are about the same as our Cummins. And don't think you are going to get away with aftermarket emission gear, or just getting a cleaning and bake. Plenty of horror stories here on folks that have done both. End result is normally pissed away money and still having to shell out more for all new parts, and that can run into the tens of thousands of dollars.

At least with a Cummins, you have a very real out, and a small network of men that know how to do it the correct way. Myself, I would look for a CM-871 or even better in regards to emissions, the CM-870. Get a deal, in frame, rid yourself of the mandate and never look back. I would not wish my experiences on anyone.

And don't think for a moment that the emissions have been fixed on the Detroits, once they hit that magic half million mile mark... And throw in the extended service intervals... Those trucks sound like rolling time bombs.

The problem with the CM870 is that you cannot go to California with them any more legally. Other states will likely follow this pattern in the next few years. The CM871 would be the oldest thing I would own myself.
