Rawze, your IR camera was very impressive, price was a little high for my budget. I found this little gizmo from FLIR and at $250 very affordable for anyone with a smart phone.
How does it compare as far as resolution?

The resolution is very very low, so they make up for it with a second camera.

I did a lot of research before I got the therm-app.

Here are some pics from different people's engines that come over here to get their truck straightened out, custom tuned, etc. -- I don't mess around.

Thats what struck me about your camera, the high resolution. Very cool!
What a great tool! No way you would spot those problems otherwise.
Makes a temp gun look like a toy!

All this talk of thermal imaging, I'm surprised nobodies mentioned cats new toy the S60 a mobile cell phone with the thermal camera built right in running on Android, it boasts some pretty cool features. Here's the like to read up on it.

Does a hot spot on the ECM indicate a problem? If so, what temp or above constitutes a hot spot with engine at normal operating temp?

That particular ECM was still working. It just was a little hotter than I see them get on the inside, indicting it was likely weakened at some point by a bad sensor or actuator
