yes, it was a gamble, but the shop that ordered all my parts said they had been seeing that happen. I'm not recommending others to use a reman head or to gamble like I did. Just confirming that it happens.

So mechanic ordered a reman head. He opened it up, and there's no RX on the identifier, but the box had RX on it.

Going to go up there tomorrow and check it out. Looks like the gamble paid off?

Yup - CAD. Not just the exchange rate, but there's always another "Get F****D Charge" when the dollar is not at par. Ie. "Well we don't know how the market fluctuates, so we're just going to charge 1.5x what the US pays". I love being Canadian eh.., but it does suck sometimes. Brand new T800 heavy spec (20k front, 46k rear, double frame, X15 performance etc.) runs 210k + taxes.

Anyways - thanks very much for the push to gamble on the head. Will keep you folks updated as any new questions come up.

If it wasn't for COVID - I could take that chance. Lie my teeth at the border, and risk getting dutied for a 10k+ kit. LOL.

Anyways - went and checked the head. No Rx or Nx, it's a new head. Manufactured october or june of 2020 (depending which way the month/day/year dilemma is). Walked through some more of the steps with the mechanic, the counterbore, shims, 14thou liner, etc. as Rawze's post had on there. He outlined most if not all of those to me. So some comfort there that it's in somewhat knowledgeable hands. Obviously when not rebuilding myself, there will be aspects of uncertainties which is the risk I take.

My next step - truck is loaded, it's at 33 tonnes 74k lbs. Should i get a break-in dyno, or a dyno in any sense (the counter being it's loaded and will pull straight off the bat to go dump that half forzen load of dirt)?

Leaving it mandated after discussion with forum members, perhaps will pull the trigger on a de mandate later on if it's running fine during the "warranty" period.

So, can a bad turbo make 50 lbs of boost? The mech. said my turbo was gone, went and took a look at it as well, looks like it's got a decent bit of play in the lateral directions. Mech said he found a good used one, when he installed it, said the turbo was just spooling all over the place during startup, moving between 18-50 lbs of boost. I know these heads can't take more than 35+ lbs of boost (around there). My question is, can the turbo actually do this if it's bad? Or is something else going on.

I'm debating between a rebuilt or new turbo. But am just shocked that a bad turbo is making more boost than a good one? Truck is mandated.
