Front crank seal
I have a cm2250, what specialty tools would I need to replace this seal? Also what parts would I also need besides the seal?

I've done them on series 60s and I thought they were a fairly easy to do.

My mechanic says they are very easy to screw up which is why he always has a spare.

You need tool part #3162992 Front Crank Seal Remover/Installer to do this procedure with the best chance of success.
The procedure is in Quickserve->ISX Service Manual->Section 1 Cylinder Block->10-001-023 Crankshaft Seal, Front

RE: Front crank seal
Thought I'd revive this old thread as this is something I'll be doing before the end of the year. Another result of this cold snap has appeared to enhance this front crankshaft seal seep. Been having some build up around the area for awhile, but now has just touched the front right corner of the oil pan. Guess it's to be expected at almost 900k. Not a huge deal by any means, but I do not like leaks and will address any 'enhanced' seep before it actually becomes a leak.

- Would the part number (4918991) which Cummins recommends for the seal replacement/installation be a good part to use, or is there a better option available? I've seen the tool range from $250-450 depending on site and manufacturer.

- Also, front crank seal number 3685173 looks to be the correct part on QuickServe for anyone hunting for it.

On my truck, the radiator has to come out to get the tool in there. Makes it into a big deal. ☹️

Damn, thats a good find if it works like it needs to! I'll (hopefully) only need to use it once or twice for quite sometime. As long as it does the job correct, that's all I'm concerned with.

I'm wondering the same. It's a Cascadia, so not sure how it's going to be. The balancer replacement wasn't an issue a little while back, but have yet to do the seal.

RE: Front crank seal
I have a 2009 short nose Pete , I had enough room to for the Puller tool. I used some cheap one I had laying around. Tho I spent the time to make sure I had room , I pulled the fan and the shroud itself. Be gentle with the new seal, they are only backed by thin tin and bend easy. As does your small front cover that they bolt to so (don’t) pry to hard. Because it will leak….. ask me how I know
