I've never attempted something along these lines before really, but I feel that it went as smoothly as anticipated.

I have marking blue, but messing with it would have added a lot of unneeded steps in my opinion. I opted to just mark the flats with a sharpie and check against a straight-edge.

Starting at 60 grit until it was more or less flat, then marking with the sharpie and laying on the 80 grit, repeat for 100, and then 120.

Either it was because at each stage I had a new belt, or there was just more contact area, but it felt like the finer grit had more pull, and polished the surface faster as I went.



If anyone else would rather just do it yourself - or live in an area where the services just aren't available, MSC is where I got the sander. With belts, I was still under $1300. While it probably won't get used a lot, I still wish I had it years ago.
